Russia and Ukraine: FIFA allows immediate transfers

The FIFA football world association has opened a temporary transfer window for foreign players and coaches in clubs in Russia and Ukraine.

FIFA speaks on Russia-Ukraine conflict; suspends Kenyan and Zimbabwean Football Federations

The Council has decided that the Treaties with Ukrainian clubs are exposed to the end of the season and players in Russian clubs can expose their contracts one-sided to 30 June.

The suspension of a contract means “that players and coaches apply as contractless until June 30, 2022 and therefore freeze it without any consequences to sign a contract with another club,” said the FIFA.

At the same time it was determined that this change period is valid until 7 April. A club may also only commit a maximum of two players who fall under this derogation.

With the decision, FIFA responded to the situation of foreign players after the invasion of Russia in Ukraine. “The FIFA reaffirms its condemnation of the continued violence of Russia in Ukraine and calls for a rapid attitude of hostilities and the return to peace,” said the World Association.

The FIFA and the European Football Union had previously excluded all Russian teams of international competitions. In Ukraine, football operation is resting since the beginning of the war.

World Cup qualification: No yellow lock in European playoff

The players of the twelve participants in the European Qualification Playoffs to the Soccer World Cup go without the risk of a threatening yellow lock for the finals in the games in March.

The World Association FIFA confirmed a report of the news agency AP, according to which individual warnings are deleted from the group stage of the qualification. This means that no national player would miss a possible final game around the ticket for the finals in Qatar (21 November to 18 December) because of a semi-final warning.

The twelve nations, including European champion Italy and Portugal, play in six semi-finals at the end of March in three finals. The winners of the finals create the jump to the World Cup, which takes place at the end of the year in Qatar. Already locked players who saw two yellow cards in the group stage, however, do not benefit from the scheme. This concerns, for example, star players Latin Ibrahimović, which — when nominated would be missing Sweden in the semi-final against the Czech Republic.
