Francis Ford Coppola [ˈfɹænsɪs fɔɹd ˈkɒpələ], né le 7 avril 1939 à Détroit, est un réalisateur, producteur et scénariste américain.
Il a été récompensé cinq fois aux Oscars et a remporté deux fois la Palme d or au Festival de Cannes. En dehors du monde du spectacle, Coppola est aussi vigneron, éditeur de magazine et hôtelier. Il est titulaire d un diplôme de l Université Hofstra où il a étudié le théâtre et a obtenu un MFA en réalisation cinématographique à l UCLA Film School (en). Grande figure du Nouvel Hollywood, il est surtout connu pour la trilogie du Parrain et Apocalypse Now, qui dépeint la guerre du Viêt Nam avec un lyrisme abouti.
Il est le père des réalisateurs Sofia et Roman Coppola, le grand-père de la réalisatrice Gia Coppola, le frère de l actrice Talia Shire et l oncle des acteurs Nicolas Cage et Jason Schwartzman ainsi que du musicien et acteur Robert Carmine.
